Privacy Policy – BitHub Google Reviews Widget

BitHub Google Reviews Widget (“the App”) is provided by BitHub, Italy.
This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, stored, and protected when a Shopify merchant installs or uses the App.
1. Information collected from Shopify
The App uses Shopify authentication to identify the store where the App is installed and to provide its functionality.
The App may process and store:
- the Shopify store domain;
- Shopify installation and session information;
- the access credentials required for the App to operate on the merchant’s store;
- technical information necessary to manage the installation and Theme App Extension.
The App does not request access to Shopify customer, order, or product data.
2. Information provided by the merchant
When configuring the App, the merchant may provide:
- a Google Maps business URL;
- an email address used for widget management and service-related communications;
- a Google Places API key;
- widget configuration preferences, including layout, colors, ratings, review limits, responsive settings, and display options.
The Google Places API key is used only to retrieve the Google Business information and reviews requested by the merchant.
API credentials are stored securely and are not exposed in the storefront widget.
3. Google review data
The App retrieves publicly available business and review information through Google Places services.
This information may include:
- business name;
- business rating;
- number of reviews;
- review text;
- reviewer display name;
- reviewer profile image, when provided by Google;
- review rating and publication information.
This information is used only to provide the review widget requested by the merchant.
The App is an independent service and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
4. Merchant customer and storefront visitor data
The App does not request Shopify customer information and does not use Shopify customer or order data.
The storefront review widget does not use visitor information for advertising, profiling, or behavioral marketing.
Like most internet services, our servers and hosting infrastructure may process limited technical information necessary for security and operation, such as IP address, request timestamp, requested resource, user agent, and error information.
Such technical data is used only for security, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and service operation.
5. How information is used
Information processed by the App is used to:
- authenticate and operate the Shopify installation;
- connect a merchant’s Google Business location;
- retrieve and refresh Google review information;
- create and display review widgets;
- save merchant widget configuration;
- provide support and service-related communications;
- protect the service against misuse and technical failures;
- comply with applicable legal and Shopify platform requirements.
BitHub does not sell personal information collected through the App.
Information collected through the App is not used for third-party advertising.
6. Data storage and security
BitHub applies technical and organizational measures designed to protect information processed by the App.
Sensitive credentials are stored using security measures appropriate to their purpose. In particular, credentials used by the App are not intentionally exposed in storefront HTML or public widget configuration.
Google Places API credentials are transmitted over HTTPS.
7. Data retention
Information associated with a Shopify store is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to provide and maintain the App.
When the App is uninstalled or when a valid deletion request is received, associated personal information is deleted or anonymized where required, except where retention is necessary for legal, security, fraud-prevention, or accounting obligations.
Public Google review information cached by the service may be refreshed or removed as part of normal service operation.
8. Shopify privacy requests
The App implements Shopify’s required privacy and compliance mechanisms, including requests relating to:
- customer data access;
- customer data deletion;
- shop data deletion.
Even though the App does not normally access Shopify customer records, these mechanisms are supported as required for Shopify App Store applications.
9. International data processing
BitHub is established in Italy, European Union.
Some services used by the App, including Shopify and Google services, may process information in countries outside the European Economic Area.
Where applicable, such processing is subject to the safeguards and contractual mechanisms provided by the respective service providers and applicable data protection law.
10. Third-party services
The App interacts with services provided by:
Shopify
Used for authentication, application installation, Shopify Admin integration, and Theme App Extension functionality.
Google / Google Places
Used to retrieve business information and reviews selected by the merchant.
The use of these third-party services is also subject to their respective privacy policies and terms.
11. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, individuals may have rights concerning their personal information, including the right to:
- request access;
- request correction;
- request deletion;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- request information about how their data is processed.
