A practical snapshot of the page you are viewing
BitHub Green Web Inspector is a free Chrome extension for developers, SEO professionals, consultants and website owners. Open a page, click Inspect this page in the extension popup and review technical information available from Chrome at that moment.
It does not monitor browsing in the background, automatically crawl websites or require a BitHub account.
What the inspector reports
- Available local timings: TTFB, FCP, LCP and CLS where observable. These are local browser measurements, not aggregated real-user Core Web Vitals.
- Resources and transfers: resource counts, initiator categories, observable transferred bytes and involved domains. Browser API restrictions may hide transfer sizes for third-party resources.
- Technical hints: image counts, missing explicit image dimensions, script counts, third-party resources and suggested checks.
- Cache and coverage: limited signals of cached resources and explicit warnings when measurements are incomplete.
- Export: keep the latest report in the browser and download it as CSV or JSON whenever you choose.
Environmental indicator: partial estimate, not measured electricity
The extension may display a partial illustrative CO₂e estimate based only on browser-observable transfer bytes and stated model parameters. It does not measure electricity consumption, server or database processing, or the full lifecycle emissions of a website. Some third-party bytes may be unobservable, making it unsuitable for sustainability rankings or claims about the total footprint of a domain.
For additional analysis using Lighthouse, CrUX and the SWDM v4 framework, use BitHub Green Web Audit. These tools serve different purposes.
How it works
- Install BitHub Green Web Inspector from the Chrome Web Store when available.
- Visit the webpage you want to inspect.
- Open the extension popup and click Inspect this page.
- Review the available metrics, suggestions and measurement limitations.
- Download CSV/JSON or clear the locally stored report.
No passwords or permanent access to every website are needed: the inspection is initiated explicitly for the current tab.
Privacy by design
The analysis takes place in Chrome. The extension reads the current page URL excluding query parameters and fragments, some performance measurements, resource hostnames and limited technical DOM counters. Only the latest report is stored in chrome.storage.local. The extension does not automatically upload reports to BitHub, does not embed ads or analytics, and does not read your overall browsing history.
A URL path can still contain personal data, so review exported files before sharing. Read the dedicated extension privacy policy. Visiting bithub.it is covered by the site's separate privacy/cookie policy.
Built by BitHub
BitHub develops custom software, eCommerce solutions and tools for the web. Green Web Inspector provides an on-page first look; Green Web Audit offers additional online checks. Both are designed to keep observations separate from assumptions and estimates.
